Approximately 400+ Hours worked on from May 2014 to May 2016

About the Artwork

Enter a realm of jewels and splendor in the latest visionary painting, “The Flight of Fancy” by Brian C. Zickafoose. This stunning piece originated from a series of visions that I downloaded from a DMT adventure that I embarked upon in 2008 at a party in Blacksburg, Virginia, during my time as a concert promoter in the area. The frame featured in this painting is the highlight of those visions and took 5 years in concept development before I ever laid a single stroke to canvas. I am proud to say that the finished product is a remarkably true representation of the original vision that I received, so many years ago. I spent many tedious hours hammering out this painting to see the vision through to completion and now my bejeweled insect friend exists in my dimension. I have opened a portal for you to enjoy. Thank you for looking.

A Three-Way Among Friends :: Oil Painting

A Three-Way Among Friends

About the Artwork

In the Summer of 2015, I attended a week-long painting intensive at CoSM and the studio of Alex Grey and Allyson Grey. This painting is the fruit of that adventure. The graphical elements for this work were transposed straight from my sketchbook. I had been pondering the idea of a bejeweled pineal gland for sometime and I wanted to create something charged with a sexual buzz and static energy interactions, hence the dual phallic Tesla Coils and plasma beams. Alex Grey did some work on this during the intensive and also gave the painting its name. Most of the work was done at CoSM but I also put in some work on this at the Mountain Music Festival at the New River Gorge in West Virginia.

In this painting, I explore the Flemish Realism oil technique of the Dutch Masters, as taught to me by the late local artist, David E. Weaver – to whose memory this is dedicated.

David Weaver was a friend of mine over the years. He was a generous and openly kind person. Whenever I would visit him at the Midland Trail Gallery, he was always giving me art prints and different things. I never left his studio empty handed. His mentorship and teaching was a huge inspiration for my art and life path. Without him this painting would not have been possible.

The painting depicts the Grist Mill at Babcock State Park at the peak of autumn’s glory on October 10, 2014 at around 4:00pm in the afternoon. Also featured in the image are several West Virginia state icons, including two cardinals (state bird), a sugar maple branch (state tree) and a honey bee (state insect), as well as native species of wildflowers.Read more

Gallery: FAC Holiday Art Exhibit – December 7, 2013

December 9, 2013 / Blog, News / 0 Comments

Photos by J. Hardy

We’ve included a few select photo frames from the Fayetteville Arts Coalition’s Holiday Art Exhibit on December 7, 2013 at the former FAC Gallery in Fayetteville, WV. Guests and artists abound, we were popping tags and passing out cream pies (literally lol) until the rooster crowed or it was time for the kids to go to bed, whatevs.

A stellar evening was had by all thanks to the hard work put in by the FAC staff and the artists. We’re looking forward to working more closely with FAC and other artists in Southern West Virginia in the future.

Peace, love and chicken grease – BZ
